The Society of Radiologists in TrainingE-Publication Information |
|
Do you have any revision notes, mcq's, or other material that you would like to share with your fellow trainees in radiology? Many radiologists have devised useful study aids and course notes whilst studying for the FRCR examinations, and some have been successful in publishing their work. Finding an interested publisher can be difficult, however, especially when the subject matter has limited specialist interest and costs are likely to exceed the anticipated revenue. Electronic publication has several advantages. Production costs are minimal and the published material is available to anyone with an internet connection. As files may be easily updated, incomplete works can be posted and subsequently updated using feedback from on-line appraisal and validation forms. The SRT will electronically distribute any material that may benefit radiologists in training, providing it has not been formerly published elsewhere. All material remains the intellectual property of the author and standard copyright law applies. For more information read the FAQ below:
What material do you accept? The SRT will accept any material that may benefit radiologists in training, providing it has not been formerly published elsewhere. Examples include revision notes, mcq's and course handouts. You may submit work on behalf of a colleague, but consent from the author must be obtained. See the submission form for details. Who holds the copyright? As an author, you are automatically assured of copyright ownership of anything you write, with the exception of “work-for-hire” writing and certain other kinds of writing. Copyright protection in the UK is automatic and there is no registration system - so there are no forms to fill in and no fees to pay. Copyright law restricts the reproduction of copyright material, storage in a retrieval system, or transmission in any form without the prior permission of the copyright owner. There are certain exceptions to the rights given to the copyright owner, for example, limited use of works may be possible for research, private study and teaching in an educational establishment. In submitting your work, you grant the SRT permission to store and electronically distribute the material through the SRT website. You retain full copyright ownership of all material downloaded. Most publishers require you to extend your copyright to the publisher to prevent unauthorised distribution of the document without their permission. For this reason, the SRT will not accept previously published material unless express permission has been obtained from both the author and the prior publisher. Do you obtain an ISBN number? An ISBN number (International Standard Book Number) is a number that allows your book to be identified worldwide. An ISBN number is usually obtained by the publisher, and is required if you want to make any sales to book shops. The ISBN agency charge a minimum fee, currently $200, to register a book and therefore we would not advise registration unless you anticipate your costs will be covered by private sales. If you require further information, please contact us through the e-publishing question form at the bottom of this page. Do you peer review submitted work? The SRT will review submitted articles for suitability but can not provide peer review or validate data and references. A feedback form is provided for radiologists to provide critical appraisal, and to report any errors or omissions. These will be forwarded to the author for consideration and amendment if required. Are any charges or payments required? No charge is made for the distribution of submitted material. If you would like your work to be registered with an ISBN agency or the British Library, an appropriate fee will apply. Please see section on ISBN numbers for more details. Do you pay royalties for submitted work? All material on the SRT site is freely available to download for your own personal use. As the SRT makes no charge for its services, we do not offer any remuneration for submitted material. Can I reference a document on the SRT website? Some journals will accept references for electronic items. Please read the instructions to authors or contact the editorial office if you have any queries. Referencing a document for your curriculum vitae is less restricted. An appropriate format is: Laasch H-U. Revision Notes for the FRCR part 1
<http://www.thesrt.org.uk/books/frcr1revisionnotes.pdf> Can I subsequently publish my work elsewhere? You retain full copyright ownership of all your documents and you may seek to publish your work elsewhere at any time. If the publisher requires you to remove your submission from the SRT website, we will remove the material as soon as is practicable. How do I submit a document for electronic publication? Please print the submission form and sign where appropriate confirming ownership of the document submitted and giving the SRT authority to distribute the material on this website. Please send in your document on a disk or CD if possible. We accept material in most popular formats e.g. Word and Excel. If accepted, we will reformat the document as required and email you a proof for approval before publishing it on the website. Any other questions? Please use the e-publishing questions form below. |
